Rutland Area Rugby wins VT. State Title
In Colchester Sunday afternoon, the Rutland U19 boys rugby team claimed the Vermont state championship with a 5-0 victory over Adirondack. Rutland's Zack Mortenson, who was a tackling force all day, scored the game's only try and was named Man of the Match. The victory completes a season that saw the gentlemen from Vermont finish third in New England. The team is made up of high school athletes from all over Rutland county. Essex High School Gymnastics specialist Mary Krug and Mount Mansfield Union High School Wrestler Robert Hamlin were chosen Vermont Female and Male athletes of the year by the membership of the Vermont Sportswriters and Sportscasters Associoation this Sunday afternoon at Norwich University.
